Arnold's CD Release Party Pictures!

. . . so far :)

If you were at Arnold's having fun, please raise your hands!

It was a packed house and the energy level was high & the crowd most enthusiastic. I took so many pictures I don't know where to begin to edit them! I shall sort, resize, crop, edit, and put in a slide show in the next few days for here & on youtube. Thus, if you are a member of the Witness Protection Program and would like to be left out of said slideshow, please click on my profile & email me what you were wearing & I will blot out your face :)

I don't know what the deal was with the shadow over the faces of Jessie & Chico in the one picture, but I like the nuance it gave off. I believe I tried to take too many photos, too quickly in low light, and my Nikon commenced to hiccup.

We left after two sets as I was just too gravity challenged after a few hours. The place was still hoppin' and the energy high when we said our good-byes. Chico's father-in-law helped with the tip jar (Ok suitcase!) and my friend made sure to put something in it when he came by our table.

So folks, give me a few days to organize a slideshow & pick out what song to use. I hope to have something finished on Monday or Tuesday.

Hope you had a chance to stop by, it was a total blast. Wish we could've stayed until the end but I shall post any updates of happenings I might have missed.

~~~See ya again, soon! Sleepy Sophia :-)
(From *Mike Breen's Citybeat column, the original link http://tinyurl.com/yatkptg )
Lagniappe has been the area’s finest Cajun music group for almost 20 years now, and the band’s new recording, Irrational Exuberance, shows exactly why they’ve remained so popular and employable. There’s nothing “novelty” about the band’s sound, an authentic but still crafty mix of Zydeco, Dixieland Jazz, R&B, Tex-Mex and many more styles. They are the aural essence of New Orleans in one ensemble and the clean, unfussy production of Irrational Exuberance even keeps the warmth and grit in tact. The band’s CD release party is 9 p.m. Saturday at Arnold’s downtown. ( myspace.com/lagniappe. Show details here.)
* With gratitude to Mike Breen for allowing the article to be posted here. Much appreciated*
Lagniappe's gonna be on the Radio WAIF 88.3 FM
Lagniappe will be on WAIF tonight around 8:15 or so, but you might tune in earlier. 8:00 p.m. CRAWFISH FIESTA (gumbo music) comes on.
It's a little station with a small signal, so if you live outside the I-275 loop, please listen online. Or maybe go sit in your car to listen (I've done that before!) If you don't own a car or a computer, find somebody who does. Take them brownies and ask to borrow their radio/computer.
Here is the link for WAIF online streaming.
Grab a chair, put up your feet, fix a drink (make mine an Irish Coffee, please) and catch Lagniappe on the radio. They'll be promoting their CD with "irrational exuberance"~pun intended.
Thanks for stopping by the blog.~~Sophia**
Speaking of the CD Launch Party....
which is next Saturday at Arnold's (did I mention that already?) You've heard the band's music but do you know about their history? While bios will be included in the CD, they've also been on this blog for the past year. By clicking on the pic on the sidebar --of the band on the stone wall-- you can read about all 6 members.
Here's the link with pictures and a synopsis of each member.
But wait, there's more! The band is supposed to be on local public radio LIVE on Tuesday night and you need to listen online if you live outside I-275 loop. Stay tuned for the times.
Crow's Nest this Saturday (see sidebar) for address & times. I have no pictures of the Crow's Nest and the above pic from Mt. Echo park years ago, is as close as I've been. :)
Remember next week, Dec. 12th is the official CD launch party at Arnold's. "Irrational exuberance" in it's eco friendly packaging, music info, pics, and 49 minutes of great music (but who's counting!) Above & below band photo s are courtesy of Chris Kromer. And major kudos for capturing the band dressed up!!! I bet Jessie had something to do with that. Everybody looks great, and look at all the instruments the band plays.
* Click on any photo to see full-sized.
If you can guess the number of instruments in this photograph, you will win a prize! Your choice of a pack or gum or Tic Tacs. (Hey times are rough, but a prize is a prize!)
Stay tuned for any updates. S'posed to be radio music appearance on WAIF this week. Will give more details so stay tuned.
Stay warm!
Lagniappe Al Fresco in October
Well, who would've thought the band would play outside on October 30th? But it was in the 70's and breezy. Unbeknownst to the rest of us, it was New Orleans To Go's Three Year Anniversary! I had some fabulous fried fish and red beans & rice.
The Quartet version of Lagniappe was extra fantabulouso tonight, and one couple even danced so it was romantical as well. I took way too many pictures and will commence to make a slideshow in the next day or two. Until then, here are a few pictures. (Click on the photos to see full sized)
Crowd getting ready to second line to "Second Line" and it started to rain a bit.
Here the wind was quite gusty as the rains came. No second lining to Northland Blvd tonight.I don't know what this expression was about except I was feeling rain on my back as I took this photo and I think the trombone player, John, was as well (that's who Chico is giving the surprised glance to) and with the wind the entire band felt mist at one point, but it was quitting time by then.
The Lagniappe Dancers!
Strolling inside to the diners.
I have NO idea how I captured this look on Chico's face (without glasses I am legally blind, as are many peeps, so I count on the auto focus of my NikonD40 to tell me when I can snap. Thus I have no idea what I truly capture until it's on my computer screen.)
If Chico won the lottery, could he look any happier? Course the odds of actually winning the lottery are the same if you buy a ticket or you do not....but i digress!
P.S. You tube slideshow here. Please excuse the slight bit of buzz after the end credits. Had to reload video, better but still there. Song clips are "La Valse de Belizaire" and "Fidgety Feet"
Also will give you a map to the place.
My sister and I would love the recipe to the red beans and rice. Tilapia & po boys great, too. But it's all good food. Band plays two sets. See video clip for a glimpse of what you've been missing if you've not made it to New Orleans To Go w/Lagniappe.
Lagniappe does Saturday Night at New Orleans To Go
Strolling inside to the diners.
After the Second Lining in the Street which everybody does in New Orleans.
Jessie Berne filled in on the Lagniappe Quartet for the out-of-town, John Mooter. Other regulars are Chico Converse, Yvan Verbesselt, and Dick Franz. Food was great, weather was fabulous (stopped raining) and the music was too.
Pictured below is Latoya, on the left in pink, with a friend of hers. Latoya is owner and chief cook of New Orleans To Go. Stop in for a bite or get carryout. Folks from New Orleans tell me this food is the real deal. I believe 'em. During "Second Line" folks got up and left their food, and danced along the boulevard out front. See the video for more pictures but the tune on the clip is "Jolie Fille."
