Sent LIVE on Twitter From Rivertown Breakdown

Well, normally I don't post blurry photos but I made an exception this time. Why?..well because I can. And because some darling young man, Alexshebar on Twitter sent me this picture from his cell phone, or Blackberry or iphone thingie. He tweeted he was at Rivertown Breakdown so I put in a request for a Lagniappe picture. By the time I got a snack (bowl of cereal) he had sent this along with a note that Lagniappe was playing some kick$$$ cajun. :) I got this before the band left the stage. Now that was a kick for this dame.

There I was on the laptop in bed, watching a webcast, listening to Oscar's snore (he's one of my cats) and reading Tweets as I was unable to attend the big event. It's amazing how we can feel in touch with modern technology. I noticed our Miss Jessie appeared to be playing an UPRIGHT BASS? What a treat that would've been to hear. If I get more photo's, will post them later.

Thanks to Alex who was tweeting live updates & pics on Twitter. (He reports for the Cincinnati Enquirer and is fun to follow on Twitter) Hope the evening was a success for the river sweep.

Ryan's Tavern Pictures From Saturday Night

Well the holiday crowd was thin but the music was not. An original Lagniappe member was in town from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Steve Bing sat in for a few songs and it was a treat to hear his Cajun Accordion and fiddle. The A/C was cranking and that was a good thing as the band was hot! Jessie's mom actually got the band to stay still for some camera poses. So yours truly took advantage, thus the the group photo above. Tough shooting people on the move constantly.

When the band returns Friday June 5th, take advantage of the Happy Hour prices on select appetizers from 4-8pm!! And I think on certain drinks as well. Ask your bartender for details!

Lagniappe Is Making a Record !

Ok, so they don't call it a record anymore. They are making a CD. I grew up in the day of albums when one could read the liner notes and sometimes enclosed lyrics, without the aid of a magnifying glass (nowadays, after I put on my reading glasses) Here is a sample cut of them performing "Sheik of Araby"--click on the song title below. This is not the final version for the CD but still a great listen.

Some trivia on this tune: Tin Pan Alley was ever vigilant to cash in on popular trends, whether it be automobiles, airplanes, radio or motion pictures. A 1921 film The Sheik, starring Rudolph Valentino, was perfect fodder, and on the heels of its release music publishers Waterson, Berlin and Snyder published “The Sheik of Araby,” sometimes known as just “The Sheik.” It was released in 1921 and became a jazz standard later and adopted by many New Orleans bands.

Lagniappe Al Fresco at New Orleans to Go last Friday.

It was a fabulous warm, breezy evening. New Orleans to Go was bursting at the seams with customers! The food was hot, the band was hotter, the drinks cold, and folks made room to dance ...and Second Line. (thus umbrella in one pic)

The band strolled inside a few times (Inside pictures courtesy of Carolyn.) That's Randy the owner smiling at the music and busy night. The blonde a seldom scene photo of yours truly. I haven't taken a decent photo since the days of the daguerreotype so excuse the self indulgence. She caught a glimpse of my bliss from this music. If you know anybody that needs cheering up, Lagniappe is great music therapy. I promise.

Band returns June 27th unless I hear otherwise. Stop by before then for some great food. Tell Latoya the blogger lady sent you. :-)
